Group work: Classifying leaves (Plant Systems)

Dear 3A,

To help you recap on the different characteristics of leaves, here are the pictures of the various groups' work:

After a class sharing, we've learnt that leaves can be classified into:
  • colour
  • texture
  • edges (entire/smooth, toothed/jagged, lobed)
  • shape (oval, heart-shaped, palm shaped)
  • single/compound leaves
Example of compound leaf
Ler's recall the definition of a compound leaf again:
  1. "a leaf consisting of several or many distinct parts (leaflets) joined to a single stem"

Can you spot other types of compound leaves in other groups' display?

I must say I'm very impressed with the variety of leaves each group had when each of you was tasked to bring some leaves to school! Thus, other than the various types of classification as stated above, there are more ways to classify leaves (Can you think of others? Hint: Look at the leaves that the other groups had collected. Could they have been classified into 2 groups differently? )

You may share your ideas here and at the same time, please update your mindmap in your NSB.

This is a reminder that you can wear your home clothes tomorrow for Children's Day. Don't wear slippers. School will start and end at normal timing.

See you bright and cheery tomorrow!
