KF (summary and reflection) and Seed Germination
Dear 3A,
Do remember that there are 2 sets of assignments for you to complete over the September holidays.
1st set of assignment:
KF: 3A Individual Reflection View
1) Summary Note
To summarise what you've learnt from your classmates' notes in KF on the topic on Magnets
Most of you should have started on your Summary note in the KB lab. Please continue to work on it from home. Refer to the PowerPoint slide as attached below for more instructions.
2) Reflection Note
To reflect and consolidate your learning in the use of KF during KB Science lesson
To feedback to me on how KF notes have impacted/helped you in your learning on Magnets
Create new note, complete this and save it as "Reflection_Magnets"
2nd set of assignment:
Seed Germination: Red Beans & Black Eye Beans
I've given all of you some red bean and black eye bean seeds. Do plant them and observe their germination closely. You are welcomed to try other seeds as well, such as green bean seeds.
Day 0
1. Firstly, get 2 disposable plastic cups (Label them accordingly to the type of seeds) and some cotton wool/cotton pads.
2. Pour some water into the cups such that the cotton wool/pads are damp, not flooded.
3. Place some seeds into each cup.
4. In your NSB, draw up a table and label the columns accordingly. Example,
You may add in additional columns if you like, for example, length/height of leaves (cm) and so on.
I'll leave it to you whether you will prefer to take a picture of your seeds or to draw.
5. Record your results daily
6. Water your plants where necessary. Just make sure that the cotton wool is always damp.
Enjoy growing your own little plants and observe their germination!
It's quite a fun process I certainly hope you can learn a little more about plants before we even start on this topic in Term 4!
If there're any questions pertaining to the assignments, please leave a comment (remember to identify yourself) in this blog post and I'll try to reply you as soon as possible. If you know how answer your classmate's question, do help out as well. I know some of you are already sharing this good practice :)
Deadline: 17 September (Wednesday)
You need not bring your plants to school. Just submit your NSB to your Science Monitors.
Have a great September holiday, 3A!

(A) Tips for Reading
The first time you look at the passage, take your time to silently read through and understand the passage.
Following that,
- Take note of PUNCTUATION - a comma means you should pause for a short while, while a full stop means there should be a longer pause.
2. Take note of dialogues and the mood.
For example,
He asked patiently "Why didn't you do this?"
VS
He screamed "Why didn't you do this!"
Although the dialogues are the same, the tone is not. So, understand the tone and expression and read it accordingly.
When you START READING,
1. Voice Level (Loud enough for someone to hear you)
You may have practiced really well but if the examiner is not able to hear you, it's difficult to reward you for your effort. So, be audible - be heard!
2. Read calmly and fluently.
No one gets extra points for being the fastest to read!
Sometimes, when we read too fast, we start to skip words or add words that are not in the passage.
So, read patiently and pause at the appropriate moments.
2. Pronunciation
- Read each word CLEARLY. Do not "swallow" or mumble your way through.
- If you come across a word that is too long or difficult to read, Don't worry!
BREAK IT DOWN into syllables and READ IT!
E.g. "Integrity" - "In/ter/grity"
"Innovation" - "In/no/va/tion"
3. Be expressive.
If I were to speak to you in the same tone (no expression, no emphasis on certain words, no "highs" and "lows" in my voice) for even 15 minutes , most of you would doze off!
So, use your voice to show emotions and expressions APPROPRIATELY.
CAUTION : Do not go to the other extreme and start maintaining a HIGH voice for every word - it becomes too dramatic!
Tips for Stimulus-Based Conversation
Use sentence starters such as:
Do take the time to revise this term's work as well!Tips for Stimulus-Based Conversation
Use sentence starters such as:
- In my opinion,
- I feel,
- Once,
- If I were,
- For example,
- I agree,
- I disagree
Have a good rest!
Love,
Ms Priya :)

Lower Primary Sports Day 2014
Hi all,
We had our Lower Primary Games Day yesterday. I'm glad to see everyone putting in their best effort for their teams. It's ok not to have won. It's the experience of participating in the games that matters the most. There will be many more opportunities to take part in sporting events in future. For those who did win medals, congratulations!
Here are some pictures from the event:
