Food for Thought: Terrarium
Hello children,
Some pictures to help you remember how it looks like and the discussion we had in class...
Day 0 (28/1/14)
Day 1(29/1/14)
As promised, here's the poster on how to make your own terrarium if you are interested. Again, please be reminded that it is not compulsory to make one.
I had an enjoyable discussion with you today. Many enthusiastic "My theory" and "I need to understand" were raised when we discussed on what will happen to the plant in the terrarium if it was left in class for 5 days.

Science Alternative Assessent (AA): Classification
Dear 3A pupils,
Some of you might still be confused on what to do first for the assessment. As such, I'll be breaking down the instructions into smaller parts for your easy comprehension:
1) Plan and draft your classification diagram in your Nature Study Book. I understand that you've handed in your book after spelling on Friday, 24 January. I'll return your books tomorrow, 28 January (Tuesday) so you can transfer your draft to the blank side of your Nature Study Book. When you plan, do take note that the items must be inexpensive and easy to collect.
Deadline: 29 January (Wednesday). For those of you who really need more time to plan or you're overseas right now, the latest I can accept your draft is 4 February (Tuesday).
2) Wait for my "OK" stamp. This indicates that your draft is fine and you can then start to collect and do up your classification chart. You can work on your classification diagram in various ways, such as using vanguard, cardboard, shoebox and so on. I think the short trip to the science lab should have given you many ideas on that (:
3) Once you have completed your classification chart, bring it to school and present your work to your classmates during Science lesson.
Step 3 will be spread out over week 5 to week 7 of Term 1.
I hope you have a fun time planning, drafting as well as doing up your classification chart. I certainly look forward to your awesome piece of work.
See you on Wednesday!
Love,
Ms Yeo

Getting it right!
Hello 3A professors!
Let us listen to the comments made by Stuart and Dave:
Stuart: Plants are non-living things because they do not move from place to place.
Dave: Clouds are living things as they move from place to place and they grow (big clouds and small clouds).
What do YOU think? Share your ideas with your fellow classmates by blogging your responses in the comment box.
Remember to:
1) Tell us who you are. No nicknames please.
2) Positive online behaviour. No spamming and criticising others.
3) Elaborate on your ideas. It should not be just "I agree/disagree with Stuart or Dave."
Post your responses by next Wednesday, 22 January. I look forward to reading your ideas!
Love,
Ms Yeo

Questions on Diversity
Hello 3A,
I have looked through your Nature Study Book and I read many interesting ideas that you know and want to understand. I'm happy to see many of you reading your textbooks on Chapter 1 - Classification, as standard answers like living things need air, food and water to grow and reproduce are given. All of you are not wrong to say that, of course. But how many of you can explain big terms like "reproduce" and "characteristics" in your own words and truly understand them?
I hope from last Friday lesson, you learnt to appreciate more on learning from others. By adding on to the answers given by your classmates or even asking more questions (What I Want to Understand), our perspective will be widen. Remember, we have to think like scientists!
Don't worry if you do not really understand or know the term "Knowledge Building". You will learn and pick up the skills along the way.
Science assignment (blog responses) will be up by the end of next week, 17 January. This will give us more time to discuss on Classification and read up on it.
Rest well 3A and see you on Wednesday!
Love,
Ms Yeo

Classroom decoration
Hi everyone,
We decorated the classroom after school today. It looks much nicer now with so many posters and Chinese New Year decorations.
Miss Chee and I would like to thank the following students for staying back and helping out in the classroom decorations: Shu Han, Chloe Ang, Shermain, Alissa and her mum, Zhe Ming and his mum.
Also a big thank you to the P5 students Shu Shuang, Bernice, Kit Wan and Brandon Cheah who came down to help as well!
If you have any more decorations to put up in the classroom, please bring them to school next week. Thanks!

Numbers to 10 000
Hi everyone,
For our Maths lesson today on Numbers to 10 000, we learnt terms such as "Place value", "Stands for" and "Value". I hope you are clear about the differences between them and don't mix them up. Some of you still need more practice in spelling numbers in words.
Here's a game (the one we played in class) to help you practice the value of digits in numbers. Have fun!

Buddy leaders
The P3 students became buddy leaders to the P1 students today. They will continue to teach their buddy various things about the school over the next 2 days as well.
It seems like it has been a fruitful experience for both the buddy leaders and their P1 buddies so far. Here are some pictures of the recess time today.
